Description
This may possibly be my first own animated feature film.
Even though it will be partially inspired by and titled after Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, I will also draw upon a huge number of other sources from The Lord of the Rings to Dinotopia to Jurassic Park to Genndy Tartakovsky’s Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory to the Ballad of Mulan (and not just Disney’s take on that legendary Chinese female warrior) to the samurai/wuxia epics of the Far East to even things like Bob Clampett’s 1938 short Porky in Wackyland (complete with the Do-Do bird who might become a guide for and ally of my heroes) for background material.
The plot of this—or what I intend to be a twelve-part thirty-six-hour-overall, exquisitely designed, visual-heavy, almost dialogue-free, painstakingly-put-together, beautifully (if largely 2d hand drawn) animated and so-called ‘Epic Global Symphony of Good Versus Evil (a subtitle that may refer to my movie’s epic, cinematic but also ethnic music score) in Twelve Feature Length Movements’ ((Pretty lofty goal, isn’t it?)) may go something like this:
In a quiet suburban neighborhood near the city of Ithaca, Reptaria, somewhere in a world where dinosaurs roam still, Nam’Krad, an evil teenage kid neighbor who is actually a power-mad warlord (and a wicked sorcerer to boot!), offended at being left off the guest list for the birthday party of Penelope, the pretty blonde teenage girl next door to young boy prodigy Odysseus, gets into a fight with Penelope’s Shangharan (or East Asian) teenage friend Nausika (sometimes spelled as Nausicaa) before fleeing to the enemy territory of Astronoma (the very realm of Nam’Krad himself) where he then excites a desire for war against the free nations.
His neighbor, the young seven-year-old boy prodigy Odysseus, journeys across dinosaur-inhabited wildernesses and strange distant exotic unknown faraway lands and civilizations as diverse as Australadoorn, Daia’Xios, Harlorleanea (home to tribes of Zuli), and Shanghara, in order to stop him, accompanied by Penelope, Nausika (or Nausicaa) , and Penelope’s Zuli (or African) friend Calypso, and helped along the way by a parade of characters that includes the last of the Do-Do Birds that once thrived in the Valley of Fools (or Wackyland) .
Sure, this might possibly be a very ambitious project even by my standards as well as a pretty lofty goal even for yours truly, but what do you think of that?
