ToonTalker

By

Timothy McKenzie

There are two cosmic ‘first causes’ of creation in this world: one was Khân Ryūu, the wise lord, mother and father of creation; all of his works, including the hōsa’kâiya humans and the animated cartoon humanoids called toona’kâiya, or toons, for short, are good.

The other, however, was Khân Akūu, the evil shape-shifting spirit who limits Khân Ryūu’s omnipotence and dwells in an abyss of endless darkness known as the Pit of Hate.

Khân Akūu is disorder, harmfulness and ignorance, and his aim is always to spoil or destroy Khân Ryūu’s pure creations. All hōsa’kâiya as well as toona’kâiya evil is due to Khân Akūu as he resides as a parasite in the bodies of men and animals.

Khân Akūu fears one thing, however: an ancient prophecy foretelling the overcoming against his evil ways at the hands of a ‘ToonTalker’, a human with the unique gift of talking to or communicating with the toona’kâiya.

Khân Akūu and his robotic footsoldiers, The Machine Men, has thus waged war upon the hōsa’kâiya and the toona’kâiya—until Khân Ryūu intervenes and the two deities reached an agreement to split the world into two realities: the real world—to be ruled by the humans; and the cartoon world—to be ruled by the toons; however, the two realities can still be connected by a portal under a visual screen, such as a television set.

As the eons passed, the toona’kâiya walked blissfully on the cartoon world prime, and grew to respect the hōsa’kâiya that blissfully walked on the real world prime.

On the twenty-first of May, in the year 1991, somewhere in Charm City, also known as Baltimore, Maryland by real-world reckoning, a unique human child is born at St. Agnes Hospital at the exact moment of sunrise.

They named him Brandon Timothy Robertson and Khân Ryūu bestow upon the newborn child a unique but rare gift among humans: he can communicate with and talk to the cartoon characters from any visual screen, and from the TV as well.

Brandon lives with his mother, father, brother and sister in a quiet suburban neighborhood near the outskirts of Annapolis in the real world.

As the years pass, Brandon becomes at one with the real world, but he can still talk to the cartoon characters from the TV set at home.

One day, when Brandon was ten years of age and attending Severna Park Elementary School, his mother took him to see, or consult, his psychiatrist, Elsa.

Elsa told Brandon’s mother that her son, is, in fact, the ‘ToonTalker’ of the prophecy, before telling Brandon of the Emerald Shard, a piece of the Great Crystal Stone that was broken off when Khân Ryūu and Khân Akūu split the world into the two realities.

Brandon must go to the cartoon world, find the Emerald Shard and reunite it with the Great Crystal Stone in the Castle of Knowledge and Wisdom before the two realities slowly merged into one reality. If he fails, all things whole and good will be destroyed.

Back at home, Brandon was eating his snack, when he hears three ethnic cartoon girls giggling while jumping rope which lures him from the kitchen and through the hallway towards his bedroom TV set. He presses his hands on the TV screen. He presses his hands on the TV for so long, that the light in his hand begins to glow.

The light from the boy’s hands means that the real world and the cartoon world are connected by a magic portal inside his TV set. Thirty seconds later, with a quick zap, the boy was sucked through the TV screen—and disappeared into the cartoon world. The family dog comes into the room, barking at the TV set.

Brandon the ToonTalker had been magically transported into the cartoon world.

When Brandon woke in his new world, his physical state unchanged, he met one of the ethnic cartoon girls, a young Asian girl, no less, and it was she who introduces herself as Lilian Liu, and he follows Lilian and her friends Daisy and Mikaela, to Daisy’s house where Brandon was introduced to Daisy’s boy genius brother, Dartmouth, who owns a hi-tech laboratory behind his bedroom wall.

Once there, Brandon discovers the Emerald Shard in Dartmouth’s Laboratory, but a gang of Machine Men led by Mordred, Dartmouth’s rival neighbor catches up with Brandon, Dartmouth, Daisy, Mikaela and Lilian, and the five of them flees into the wilderness—where the dinosaurs still live.

There, they meet a traveling samurai warrior swordsman named Misahiko, who agrees to accompany the five on their journey to the Castle of Knowledge and Wisdom.

After confronting Mordred in the ruins of the last samurai village, Brandon, Lilian, Dartmouth, Daisy, Mikaela, Misahiko, and a high school boy named Tom, are carried to the Castle of Knowledge and Wisdom by a group of friendly giant robots.

Entering the castle, our seven heroes are taken in by a Viking chief-like sage who shows them around the castle.

That is, until…

Mordred and the Machine Men hijacks the Castle of Knowledge and Wisdom, and a mighty battle ensues as the two realities started to slowly merge into one, pulling the Great Crystal Stone from its chamber and slowly towards the Inner Harbor in Downtown Baltimore in the real world.

In a last desperate effort, Brandon and Lilian penetrates the Chamber of the Great Crystal Stone that is slowly turning into the U.S.S. Constellation, as Mordred prepare for The End of Days for the Two Realities that would regenerate the evil power of Khân Akūu.

Using the Emerald Shard, and with Lillian’s help, Brandon heals the Great Crystal Stone at the moment Mordred unleashes the End of Days, releasing the power of good it contains, and destroying Mordred and his robot army in the process.

With the two realities back to normal, Brandon hugs and kisses Lillian goodbye before returning to the real world reality where he was reunited with his family in Baltimore.

THE END
